Thankful.

I am thankful for many, many things.  My children and healthy, happy, and moving forward.  I am thankful for each of them, for their personalities and gifts, for the love and joy they bring into my life everyday.  I am thankful for beauty, for living in a warm and beautiful community where I feel at home.  I am thankful for friends and work that matters to me.  I am especially thankful for the kindness of our extended family and community.  Love makes living possible, I am thankful for love.

Thankful.

Today I am thankful for gorgeous morning sunlight through the trees by my office window, my general good health and the good health of my children, a community that feels welcoming and has lots of free activities for families with children, and friends.

Thoughts.

Lately I’ve been struggling with my motivation. It has been difficult to feel passionate, optimistic, joyful. And, it’s been very hard for me as, being passionate and enthusiastic is who I am. I am all about what we can do, what’s right, what we could do better. That whole Obama “Yes, we can!” message – that’s my essence.

It feels like there is a general depression in the zeitgeist – a whole a nation is tired, over-extended, and depressed. Lately a lot of people I respect and love have been about what we can’t do, and that’s really hard for me. So much of life is about what we can’t do…who says so? Why can’t we change things?

I don’t claim to know the way or have all of the answers, but I do have passion and energy and I’m willing. Why would anyone want to thwart that?

Anyway, I determine (between you and me) that I will keep being optimistic and keep moving forward. This winter might be cold, but spring is on the other side – and during winter there is all that warm soup, fresh bread, heavy blankets and sweaters. Life is good. Even during the hard parts.DSCN1279

It was a busy, rainy, emotional, wonderful day – I am so blessed to share my days with my children and friends. Nathaniel was so happy dressed up as Buzz Lightyear. Jack, Alice and I went to Safeway tonight and the HSU Lumberjack Band was playing right in the middle of the store. Such an Arcata thing – and so wonderful.
